- TWA
- True wind angle: the angle between the boat’s direction and the true wind direction. Check the selected wind source before comparing it.
- Heading
- The direction the boat points. It can differ from COG because of current, leeway or sensor error.
- Heel
- The boat’s sideways tilt. Check the sign convention and sensor setup before comparing boats.
- Pitch
- The boat’s fore-and-aft tilt.
- Port / starboard
- The boat’s left / right sides when looking forward. A port/starboard split separates the corresponding sailing conditions.
- Tack / gybe
- A turn that takes the bow / stern through the wind. Detected turns depend on the chosen settings and available data.
- Leg
- One section of the course. Select a leg to compare the same part of a race.
- Filter
- A rule that limits which samples or intervals enter an analysis. It does not delete the original recording.
- Average
- A summary of the selected values. Check the metric and view’s aggregation before comparing summaries.
- Median
- The middle of an ordered set of values; less affected by isolated extremes than the arithmetic mean.
- Mode
- The most common value or value bucket. Its result depends on the bucket size.
- Standard deviation
- A measure of how spread out values are around their mean. Greater spread does not by itself mean poorer sailing.
- Percentile
- A position in an ordered set of values. Check which boats and interval define the comparison.
- Density
- A view of where values are concentrated across a selected range. Peaks show common values, not necessarily the best ones.
- Boxplot
- A compact summary of a distribution using its median, quartiles and whiskers.
- Polar
- A plot relating speed or another selected value to sailing angle. Compare like conditions and check the wind setup.
- XY plot
- A comparison of two values against each other. A visible relationship alone does not establish cause and effect.
- Fleet role
- A temporary analysis role such as Focus, Watch or Hidden. It is separate from stored boat identity.
- Archive
- Keep a closed log in storage while removing it from the active Library list; Restore returns it.
- Screenshot
- An image of a view. It cannot be reopened as an editable sailing recording.
- Log
- A recording for one boat. A sailing day can contain several races in the same log.
- Open logs
- The recordings currently loaded for analysis. They are different from rows selected for a library operation.
- Time selection
- The interval between the start and end controls. In race cutting, the end also acts as a reference for choosing a finish.
- Race cut
- New logs containing the selected race and its prestart period. The original logs are retained.
- Prestart
- The recording time to keep before the race start. The cutter initially offers two minutes.
- WW/LW
- Windward/leeward: a course with upwind and downwind legs.
- SWD
- Suggested wind direction. Check the suggestion against the course and the boats’ sailing direction before applying it.
- SOG
- Speed over ground: how quickly the boat moves over the earth, usually shown in knots.
- COG
- Course over ground: the direction of the boat’s movement over the earth.
- VMG
- Velocity made good: the component of speed along the chosen reference direction. Wind-based VMG depends on correct wind setup.
- Crossing pick
- Which eligible line crossing to use relative to the selected end time: Nearest, Previous or Next.
- Crossing direction
- Which direction of travel through a line is eligible. Any accepts either direction; it does not choose a crossing time.
- Line extension
- Continuing the start or finish line beyond its endpoints when looking for a crossing.
- Reference distance
- A finish method that matches other boats to the reference boat’s wind-axis distance value at the selected end time. The web label includes updistabs.
